Welcome to another installment of our “Meet an Uplander” series where we will introduce you to various members of the community so you can; learn more about them, how they came to Upland, and what they are looking to get out of the game. Hopefully you will (or maybe already have) get to interact with these members in a more social settings like Discord.
TML: Tell us a little bit about yourself; where in the world are you from? Anything interesting you’d like to share about yourself with the community?
GreenTurtle: I’m a software development freelancer living near Frankfurt, Germany.
TML: What’s your background; Crypto or Gaming?
GreenTurtle: My background is mostly gaming (played League of Legends for years before jumping to Upland) but I also own smaller amounts of several crypto coins.
TML: How did you hear about Upland?
GreenTurtle: There was a report about that new crypto game called Upland on my daily Google news overview and Covid lockdown was about to start so I needed something to spend my time with. So I created my account in early March 2020.
TML: What is the most exciting thing to you about Upland?
GreenTurtle: Hmmm… not that easy but probably it’s the insane range of possibilities you could think of how this game can develop. The connection between real world properties and a virtual world in combination with easy accessibility of all that crypto stuff is outstanding right now. Of course it has its price since we all know there are a lot of regulations and limitations what you can do with “your owned” properties, but as long as the team behind Upland is trustworthy (and for me they really are) this should not be a showstopper at all.
TML: What is your favorite property (it can be owned by you or someone else)? Why?
GreenTurtle: There are so many really interesting properties but for me its my 1111 MARKET ST just because of the really amazing address and the story how this property got to me. It was sold twice for exactly the unminted price before it finally got to me (thanks to Sunstar who kindly agreed on selling it again even with a small loss (charges)).
TML: Would you like to make any plugs?
GreenTurtle: I’ve already created some data/property analysing and search tools I’m using quite often. But most likely they will never be available for public usage (because there are other tools meanwhile on the market and technical restrictions I have to keep).
TML: Lol, no worries, don’t want you to get any speeding tickets for being too fast :p Anything else you’d like to share/include in your profile?
GreenTurtle: Since I got a lot of good feedback since I did my outing I want to emphasize that you do not need to spend much money to be successful and have a lot of fun in Upland. Thanks to the really great community everyone who puts enough time in the game and even more in community work can reach directory level – just like me. I’ve spent only 5$ to get Uplander in early March and in the end of June I had my director ceremony. Still a poor hourly rate considering all the time I’ve spent but that was all fun for me. I hope you all enjoy Upland as much as I do.
TML: That’s right you made it to Director with only an initial investment of $5! That is quite an accomplishment. Can you tell us about that journey?
GreenTurtle: At the time I started Upland I got 6k UPX. Cheapest unminted properties I could find were slightly above 2k UPX. So I searched for 2 next to each other with a third cheap one available in the same street to buy as soon as I collected my first bonus for newbie collection. After earning the first bonus money I was able to buy the third one and then could do San Franciscan and King of Street collection with still only 3 properties. Nice, but what to do now?!? Treasure hunts were not available in the beginning so I decided to put 5$ in to continue my way and get my Uplander status. I’ve also put 2 of my properties on market slightly above the price I paid for to flip them for Sunset properties as soon as possible and get this collection. It would have been pretty boring this way but luckily Upland has an awesome community so I tried to participate in whatever event was organized by them. Most of them were just raffles where you had to visit a property and one lucky winner gets all the visitor fees plus a bonus from time to time. So I managed to win one with 5-10k (can’t remember exactly any more) and weeks later you [ThankMeLater] were celebrating your 21 collection achievement and did a 20k raffle in your Disney museum. I decided to send my whole family on a nice family trip there and got 4 tickets which in the end paid out. I remember I had to add around 6k and got the whole Mission street collection from this raffle (worth 26k – insane!). Meanwhile treasure hunts were released by the Upland team and this was and probably is by far my biggest money source next to property flipping and revenues. TLDR: Be active in the community and do one step at a time. This way everyone can be a director in Upland – it just takes time and even more time….
Such an amazing story! And since the interview with GreenTurtle has received his custom explorer (which you get for achieving 1M UPX Net Worth) and like a true gentleman is paying it forward with his own community event!
